Center for Industry Self-Regulation

BBB National Programs’ Center for Industry Self-Regulation (CISR), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was created to harness the historic power of self-regulation in the United States in order to empower business accountability.

Our Mission

CISR was founded upon the belief that businesses and consumers alike benefit from a marketplace where businesses work collaboratively to tackle tough issues and build trust through high standards of accountability.

We are dedicated to:

  • Research on the conditions necessary for effective industry self-regulation.
  • Education that supports responsible business leaders developing fair, future-proof best practices.
  • The incubation of new self-regulatory programs that will enhance trust with consumers, partners, and regulators.

The Soft Law Summit

Each year at the Soft Law Summit, industry leaders, regulators, and academic experts convene to dissect how the challenges and opportunities for America's business sectors have been and can be addressed by independent industry self-regulation.

The Incubator

Where ideas are transformed into effective action.

The Self-Regulation Incubator is where businesses build best practices. The Incubator is an accelerated and structured convening designed to produce a lasting and actionable work product that can be swiftly adopted by an entire industry. It functions as a ready-made framework for the rapid development of industry-wide standards for emerging industry-wide challenges.

Our Research

Our research and community of academic partners are the foundation of the development of new industry self-regulation initiatives. CISR focuses on research that addresses industry-wide challenges to develop fair, future-proof best practices.
